Left BehindLeft Behind: Capturing the Moor Hospital

2 December 2016 to 19 February 2017
Lancaster City Museum

Shadows fall on the abandoned ward, broken glass lies on wooden flooring and the memories of those within the building are captured by their scribbled writings on its walls. These are just some of the haunting images captured which both fuse and delicately balance the themes of beauty and decay.

‘Left Behind: Capturing the Moor Hospital’ was an exhibition by local photographer Nick Dagger, showcasing Lancaster’s abandoned 19th Century psychiatric hospital, the first asylum in Lancashire. This project set the scene of what was left behind after closing its doors in 2000 and before the complex was given a new lease of life and redeveloped as luxury homes in 2013.
